In the next-generation communications (5G/6G) era, the enormous interconnection of heterogeneous and ubiquitous devices including the Internet of Things (IoT), heterogeneous IoT (HetIoT), and heterogeneous sensor devices, generates enormous applications and services in 5G/6G network environments. Since, there are insufficient management and orchestration schemes in terms of resource offloading, traffic, and service handling, the effective methods in radio access networks and core networks are still in challenging issues.

To overcome the aforementioned issues, MCN Lab distributes various significant research domains in next-generation mobile communication systems including 5G/6G networks, software-defined heterogeneous IoT, AI-based broadband/narrow-band communication systems, bigdata traffic engineering, medical IoT networks, applied artificial intelligence (AI) for software-defined radio access networks (SDRAN), and software-defined edge cloud (SDEC) towards core environments for both vertical and horizontal applications.

  1. Next-Generation Networking: 5G/6G/RAN/fronthaul/backhaul/core, applied machine learning, traffic engineering, 5G evolved packet core (EPC), virtual EPC software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV), mobile edge computing (MEC), network slicing, and others.
  2. Adoption Technology: the convergence of AI (machine learning and deep learning), SDN, NFV, MEC, and network slicing.
  3. Vertical/Horizontal Industrials
  4. Internet of Vehicle (IoV): Social IoV (SIoV), ultra-high reliable for the vehicle-to-vehicle (UHRV2V), ultra-low latency for the vehicle-to-vehicle (ULLV2V), vehicle-to-everything (V2X)
  5. Medical communication systems: ultra-high reliable and ultra-low latency for mission-critical traffic (e.g., remote operation, electrocardiogram, hypertension, and hospital bigdata communication systems)
  6. IoT: IoT traffic engineering, medical IoT communications, heterogeneous IoT, wireless sensor networks, wireless body area networks, narrow-band IoT, real-time IoT traffic, etc.

(Software-defined mobile edge computing (SDMEC), SDRAN, mobile cloud computing, IoT networking, IoT/HetIoT traffic, quality-of-service and quality of user experience, 5G mobile core networks, traffic engineering, NFV/SDN/MEC, network slicing, and applied AI are under the umbrella of MCN Lab research domains.)
